A trip to Washington, DC … and down memory lane…

May 11, 2012

Walking across the Foggy Bottom campus and even down M Street to Georgetown’s waterfront brought back ALOT of memories for me last week. It felt like I was time-traveling (where was my Delorean?? And DOC? and Marty McFly vest?), and I actually had to take a minute to sit down on a bench outside of the West End, my sophomore year dorm, to really reflect on how much has changed in my life since those days as an undergrad. Walking into the School of Media and Public Affairs to meet up with one of my favorite Journalism professors (and mentor), Steve Roberts, reminded me of how many dreams (and how much self-doubt) I had in those classrooms as a journalism major and aspiring professional journalist. Now, seven years later from when I graduated, I felt so empowered by how many of those dreams I reached — and so excited to tackle the others on my list. I felt so thankful for all the wonderful memories I created at GW and even for the not-so-wonderful ones — they were the ones that taught me lessons and forced me to grow. Thinking about my friends from college and especially my former roommates, I felt blessed to have almost every one of them still in my life and still a very big part of my life.

I said a quick prayer of Thanksgiving to God and then called my Dad to thank him yet again from the bottom of my heart for giving me the opportunity to attend such an incredible university that really helped mold me into the person I am personally and professionally. The day was a true reflection and reminder to always keep dreaming and to always express gratitude – sometimes to others, sometimes to God and yes, sometimes to yourself.
